The candidate will report directly to the Deputy Planning Manager (Berth).
Key responsibilities
Principle accountabilities of this position:
- Makes training programs for the new Cargo Controller.
- Makes and updates SOP for training/daily task purpose
- Identifies the areas / skills of the team members which need to be improved, then makes the program to fulfill.
- Carries out the refresh training for the members where needed
- Well coordinates with other positions in the terminal (such as Yard Planner, Vessel Planner, Gate , Terminal Supervisor, etc.) to consolidate the knowledge/skills for training the team
- Assumes responsibility for the entire Cargo Control Process.
- Ensures that operating and reporting systems are updated with error free information for every vessel. Maintains control of the “To Come List” with regards to pre-approved late arrivals and exceptions.
- Follows up with Yard Planner and Gate on the progress of load-lists. Ensures that the load-lists are finalized in time prior to the vessel ETA. Clarifies issues with the shipping lines to mitigate disputes.
- Interacts closely with the vessel planners and shipping lines regarding additional changes after set cut-off time has passed.
- Ensures consistency of treatment among shipping clients regarding cargo delivery deadlines and cargo prioritization.
- Investigates and document service failures, and reports them to the appropriate parties.
- Responds to inquiries related to Terminal Departure Reports for vessels no longer at berth.
- Measures and reports the performance versus standards for the terminal and the shipping line with regard to compliance with the terms of the service agreement.
- Monitors vessel schedules on daily basis.
- Interacts closely with the vessel planners and shipping lines regarding additional changes after set cut-off time has passed.
- Ensures a timely delivery of Terminal Departure Report per vessel
- The key impact of this incumbent will be the maintenance of operational efficiencies in the terminal. Responsibility for the execution of day to day operational activities.
- Releases containers once customs clearance and line approval are done.
- Works with Customs for supporting customers in some cases if requested.
- Coordinates closely with Customs to make sure all issues are solved accordingly.
- The position is responsible for considering and ensuring the confidentiality of all works, documents and information received during the course of work performance with due diligence and not to disclose any confidential information to any third-party for any purpose that is not related to the company’s business during and after the employment with Gemalink.
- Other jobs related this position will be requested by the Deputy Planning Manager (Berth) from time to time if any.
The candidate
The idea candidate will be required:
- Minimum college degree in maritime, preferable in logistics
- Minimum 2 years of experience in container terminal operations environment.
- Good knowledge of type of container, commodity, customs clearance, etc..
- Extensive experience with terminal operations planning software.
- Solid understanding of terminal operations and planning systems as well as software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
- Effective teamwork skills
- Good analytical, planning, and organizing skills
- Good supervisory, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- A forward thinking and creative individual who can relate to people at all levels of the organization.
- Able to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Punctual, well organized, high sense of responsibility.
- Ability to communicate both in Vietnamese and English.
