In the cool weather by year end and the hardworking atmosphere to achieve annual targets, Gemadept has just launched another container vessel with large tonnage on domestic routes.
At 11 am on November 11th 2017, Green Pacific left Hai Phong. After calling at Da Nang port, the fully loaded vessel called at Ho Chi Minh City port on the morning of November 14th. This is a young and modern vessel being invested by Gemadept Corporation with the aim of making Gemadept the leading shipping line on domestic routes. With the capacity of 15,000 DWT equivalent to 1,060 Teus, Green Pacific is one of a handful of Japanese-built vessels with high-quality shipbuilding and good maintenance meeting operation requirements. It also complies with international standards for safety and oil pollution protection in the maritime sector. As planned, the vessel will be operated about 42 voyages per annum in average.
In recent years, we have witnessed the domestic and world shipping market gradually passing through the downturn period and there are signs of prosperity. Specifically, the container throughput of Vietnam’s seaports continues to increase rapidly and stably. In addition, the demand for cargo transportation between regions of the country has started to grow again. However, the size of Vietnam's shipping market is still very modest. Currently, there are about 10 shipping lines operating in the domestic market, mostly using small vessels.
In order to increase the competitiveness in the domestic shipping market, to meet the increasing demand of customers and at the same time to be in line with the plan for building and developing a fleet which effectively supports Gemadept’s operation of Logistics and Port Operation, the Corporation decided to invest in Green Pacific, raising the total number of Gemadept’s fleet to 34 vessels of sizes, enhancing Gemadept’s capacity in domestic market as well as linking Vietnam-ASEAN and Cambodia.
Along with the new and modern port named Nam Dinh Vu, which is about to be completed by year end, Green Pacific will continue to light up the belief and hope of a Vietnamese brand confidently entering 2018, the year for strong integration and development of the country lying on the Pacific coast.
