Gemalink Port plays a vital role in the Port-Logistics ecosystem of Gemadept Group and its partner CMA-CGM. It is one of 19 ports in the world capable of receiving the largest container vessels today with a capacity of up to 250,000 DWT, which is equivalent to 24,000 TEUs. After five years of operation from 2021 to 2025, the total number of vessels call through Gemalink Port reached 2,018, with nearly 70% of those being large-capacity vessels ranging from 160,000 to 232,066 DWT. The Port achieved a throughput volume of 6.5 million TEUs, maintaining double-digit annual growth.
Over the next five years, shipping lines are expected to continue building and operating large, clean-energy container vessels with capacities ranging from 160,000 to 250,000 DWT. Benefiting from its position as the only deep-sea port in the Cai Mep area capable of receiving the largest vessels today, Gemalink Port will serve as a vital gateway for the Southern region on global maritime routes. This is particularly enhanced by its central location within the Ho Chi Minh City Free Trade Zone at Cai Mep Ha, alongside seamless connectivity to the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressway network, railways, and inland waterways that link the economic lifelines of Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and neighboring provinces. Gemalink Port will continue to solidify its prominent role and position during the 2026-2030 period and beyond.
Positioning Gemalink as a Key International Transshipment Hub in the region
Alongside Phase 1, Gemalink Port Phase 2 will effectively serve Vietnam’s growing import-export demands, supporting cargo throughput in the Cai Mep-Thi Vai area, which is growing at an average rate of over 10% per year. As the only deep-sea port in the Cai Mep area capable of investment expansion over the next five years, and with the partnership of CMA-CGM, the world’s third-largest shipping line, both phases of Gemalink Port will have sufficient capacity to meet growing cargo volumes and capture transshipment flows from regional countries. This will transform the port into a leading regional transshipment hub while maintaining its status as the largest deep-sea port in the country. The project also reaffirms the long-term investment commitment of CMA-CGM Group to this high-potential region.

Contributing to turning Ho Chi Minh City into an International Maritime and Financial Center
Gemalink Phase 2 continues to pioneer the “Smart & Green Port” model. The port’s 100% utilization of E-STS and E-RTG cranes, alongside cutting-edge equipment and technologies, not only helps shipping lines meet ESG standards but also provides outstanding handling productivity and service quality. Together with the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port cluster, Gemalink Port will maintain its position among the Top 10 most efficient container ports globally according to the World Bank.
Gemalink Port Phase 2 is scheduled for completion and operation in the fourth quarter of 2027. Situated within the core area of the Ho Chi Minh City Free Trade Zone project at Cai Mep Ha, this integration of manufacturing, services, and logistics will contribute to the double-digit economic growth goals of Ho Chi Minh City and the nation as a whole. This project aims to elevate the Vietnamese port operation and logistics brand to a global level and accelerate the transformation of Ho Chi Minh City into an International Maritime and Financial Center.
